Abstract

The aims of this study is to discuss an alternative theory that is
suitable to use to improve the problem solving skill of students at the
level MI/ primary school that still low.One of the causes that make
students’s problem solving skill still low is the theory of learning that
teachers use was couldn’t improving desire of students in solving
math problems. The alternative theory to improve the problem solving
skills of student in this study is discovery learning model. Where this
discovery learning model is a learning model developed based on
constructivism, a way of learning to understand concepts, meanings,
and relationships through an intuitive process to finally arrive at a
conclusion. In applying the discovery learning model in the classroom,
there are several stages that must be carried out in learning activities,
namely: stimulation, problem identification, data collection, data
processing, verification, and drawing conclusions.The method used in
this study is a study of literature studies, that is by collecting data
about discovery learning toproblem solving skill from various sources,
such as relevant research, books, etc. After conducting a study
literature by citing data from various sources, it is assumed that the
discovery learning model can improve students' problem solving skill
at the level Madrasyah Ibtidaiyah / primary school.
