Gaya Bahasa Retorika Tajahul al-‘Arif : Analisis Surat al-Anbiya’ Rhetorical Language Style of Tajahul al-‘Arif: an Analysis in Surat al-Anbiya’

Abstract

Ignoring the “Arif” is one of the techniques of the Holy Qur’an; it is a topic within the field of badi’ in rhetoric, classified among the stylistic embellishments. It consists of questions in the Qur’an and rhetorical interrogatives that convey various meanings. All of these questions originate from the tongue of Allah, the Exalted—that is, the questions posed by our Lord, the Exalted, to convey their underlying purposes and to serve as a guide for the addressees on their path to the straight path, for Allah is All-Knowing of everything. The objective of this research is to conduct a thorough analysis of the “ignoring the knower” style in Surah Al-Anbiya’ and to uncover the meanings and purposes of the questions posed in this style. This study adopted a qualitative approach, and the researcher used a literature review to collect data; thus, every verse in Surah Al-Anbiya’ that employs the “ignoring the knower” style serves as a source of research data. As for the method used in data analysis—namely, content analysis—it was used to identify the sentences or mechanisms presented in the style of “ignoring the knower” in Surah Al-Anbiya’, and the researcher then analyzed their meanings. The result of this research is as follows: Surah Al-Anbiya’ contains 18 interrogative verses, 5 of which do not employ the style of ignoring the knower, while 13 of them do employ such styles. The researcher identified, among these phrases, 15 sentences that involve ignoring the knower. The primary purposes of the sentences employing techniques of omitting the subject are as follows: denial in eleven verses, threat and warning in one verse, exclamation in two verses, statement in one verse, rebuke in one verse, command and exhortation in two verses, and guidance in one verse.
