METODOLOGI DAN PENDEKATAN TAFSIR MODERN: ANALISIS KONSEPTUAL TERHADAP PERKEMBANGAN STUDI TAFSIR AL-QUR'AN

Abstract

This article examines the development of Qur'anic exegesis (tafsir) methodology as an epistemological framework for understanding the Qur'an amid scientific advancement and the growing complexity of contemporary societal issues. Previous studies have generally examined classical tafsir methods and modern interpretative approaches separately, leaving their conceptual relationship insufficiently explored. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the concept of tafsir methodology, identify the characteristics of its principal methods, examine contemporary interpretative approaches, and evaluate the relevance of integrating both dimensions in contemporary Qur'anic studies. This study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method. Primary data were drawn from major works on tafsir methodology, particularly 'Abd al-Hayy al-Farmawi's classification of tafsir methods and scholarly literature on modern interpretative approaches, while secondary data were collected from academic books, journal articles, and previous studies. Data were analyzed using descriptive-analytical and comparative techniques. The findings indicate that tafsir methodology comprises five principal methods and seven contemporary interpretative approaches. The novelty of this study lies in proposing an integrative conceptual framework that unifies classical tafsir methods and modern interpretative approaches within a single epistemological perspective. The study concludes that this integration provides a more comprehensive, objective, and contextual model of Qur'anic interpretation while preserving methodological rigor and enhancing the relevance of Qur'anic studies in addressing contemporary intellectual and societal challenges.
