Abstrak

The phenomenon of food wastage has become a serious threat to global food security, ultimately having a significant impact on various aspects of life, particularly the economy and the environment. As one of the countries with the largest Muslim populations, Indonesia ranks eighth in the world in terms of household food waste generation. This article aims to formulate preventive strategies for addressing food waste by exploring the prophetic values contained in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This study employs a qualitative method through a literature review, with data collected using the takhrīj al-ḥadīth technique to verify the authenticity and originality of the hadith texts. Meanwhile, the thematic sharḥ al-ḥadīth approach is employed to examine and interpret the meanings of the relevant hadiths. The results indicate that the Prophetic hadiths offer three comprehensive strategies for mitigating food waste: first, transforming consumption paradigms through the principle of moderation to prevent wasteful behavior; second, implementing zero-waste micro-ethics by appreciating food remnants and food that accidentally falls; and third, promoting responsible resource management to prevent unnecessary waste. The findings of this study emphasize that the prophetic values embedded in the hadiths can provide applicable ethical and practical guidance for transforming lifestyles that tend to be excessively consumptive and driven by extravagance. Therefore, this article recommends the internalization of prophetic ethics as a moral foundation for strengthening national food security and realizing comprehensive social welfare.
