Peer Review Process
Edu Global: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. Every paper submitted for publication to Edu Global: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam will undergo a peer review process. This process involves the evaluation of the submitted paper by two or more experts who possess similar competence to the author. The purpose of this peer review is to assess the academic paper's suitability for publication. The peer review process is essential in maintaining the scientific quality and credibility of the published papers. The peer review process at Edu Global follows nine steps as outlined below:
1. Submission of Paper
The corresponding or submitting author submits the paper to the journal through the Edu Global: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam journal management system. Submission is done via the Open Journal System (OJS) platform, which allows authors to upload their paper and track submission status. However, to accommodate authors, Edu Global also temporarily accepts paper submissions via email under certain circumstances.
2. Editorial Office Assessment
The submitted paper is initially assessed by the Edu Global editorial team. The editor checks if the paper aligns with the journal's focus and scope. The paper is also evaluated against the journal's author guidelines to ensure it includes the necessary sections and proper formatting. Additionally, the editorial team will assess the minimum quality of the paper for publication, including checking for significant methodological flaws. All papers passing this stage will be checked for plagiarism using plagiarism detection software before proceeding to peer review.
3. Appraisal by the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief evaluates whether the paper is appropriate for publication in Edu Global. The paper must be original, engaging, and relevant to the field of Islamic education. If the paper does not meet these criteria, it may be rejected without further review.
4. Invitation to Reviewers
The handling editor invites potential reviewers who are considered experts based on their area of expertise, research interests, and without conflicts of interest. The peer review process at Edu Global involves a community of qualified experts who are capable of providing objective and impartial reviews. This impartiality is maintained through the double-blind peer review process, where the author does not know the identity of the reviewer, and vice versa. The paper is sent to reviewers anonymously.
5. Response to Invitations
Potential reviewers consider the invitation based on their expertise, potential conflicts of interest, and availability. They then decide whether to accept or decline the invitation. In the invitation letter, the editor may request the reviewer to suggest alternative reviewers if they choose to decline the review.
6. Conducting the Review
Reviewers allocate time to read the paper thoroughly. The first reading is used to form an initial impression of the work. If major issues are identified at this stage, reviewers may decide to reject the paper without further evaluation. Otherwise, they will read the paper several more times, taking notes to prepare a detailed point-by-point review. The review is then submitted to the journal with a recommendation to accept, reject, or request revisions (usually flagged as either major or minor) before reconsidering the paper.
7. Evaluation of Reviews by the Journal
The Editor-in-Chief and the handling editor evaluate all returned reviews before making an overall decision. If the reviews differ significantly, the handling editor may invite an additional reviewer to obtain a further opinion before making a final decision.
8. Communication of Decision
The editor sends a decision email to the author, including any relevant reviewer comments. Reviewer comments are sent anonymously to the corresponding author to take the necessary actions and provide responses. At this point, reviewers are also notified of the outcome of their review via email or letter.
9. Final Steps
If accepted, the paper is sent for copy-editing. If the paper is rejected or returned to the author for major or minor revisions, the handling editor will include constructive comments from the reviewers to assist the author in improving the paper. The author is expected to make corrections and revisions according to the reviewers' comments and instructions.
Once revisions have been made, the author should resubmit the revised paper to the editor.
If the paper was returned for revision, the reviewers should expect to receive the revised version unless they have opted out of further participation. However, if only minor revisions were requested, this follow-up review might be conducted by the handling editor.
If the editor is satisfied with the revised paper, it is considered accepted. Accepted papers will be published online and made available for free download in PDF format.
