Qaulan: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam was established in 2020 by Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri Mandailing Natal (STAIN Mandailing Natal), Indonesia, as an academic forum for the development and dissemination of scholarly knowledge in the field of Islamic communication and broadcasting. From its establishment, the journal has been committed to providing a scholarly platform for lecturers, researchers, academics, students, and communication practitioners to publish original research and engage in academic discussions concerning communication, broadcasting, Islamic media, da'wah, and related interdisciplinary studies.

Since its first publication in 2020, Qaulan has been published biannually in June and December. The journal was developed as a peer reviewed and open access journal, providing free and broad access to scholarly articles for researchers, academics, students, practitioners, and the wider community. The journal applies a double blind peer review process to maintain the quality, objectivity, and academic integrity of published manuscripts.

In its early development, Qaulan primarily focused on Islamic communication, Islamic broadcasting, da'wah communication, journalism, and mass media. As communication technologies and media environments continued to develop, the journal gradually expanded its academic scope to include digital communication, social media, digital da'wah, Islamic media, media literacy, communication technology, and contemporary communication phenomena. This development reflects the journal's commitment to responding to changes in communication practices while maintaining its foundation in Islamic values.

Qaulan was assigned the Print ISSN 2722 2780 and subsequently the Electronic ISSN 2721 8279, supporting the journal's identity as an established scholarly publication with both print and online publication records. The journal is published by Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri Mandailing Natal and continues to develop its editorial management, peer review system, publication ethics, digital publishing practices, and scholarly visibility.

The journal has also adopted the Digital Object Identifier DOI prefix 10.56874/qaulan to strengthen the persistent identification and accessibility of its scholarly publications. Through the implementation of digital publishing and Open Journal Systems, Qaulan continues to improve the discoverability, accessibility, and long term availability of its published research.

Today, Qaulan: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam continues to serve as a scholarly platform for research and critical discussion in Islamic communication and related fields. Journal Milestones

2020 — Establishment and First Publication
Qaulan was established and began publishing scholarly articles in the field of Islamic communication and broadcasting.

2020 onwards — Biannual Publication
The journal adopted a regular publication schedule of two issues per year, published in June and December.

Development of Peer Review System
Qaulan implemented a rigorous double blind peer review process to strengthen the quality and integrity of published research.

Development of Open Access Publishing
The journal adopted an open access publication model, allowing scholarly articles to be accessed freely by the academic community and the public.

ISSN Registration
The journal obtained Print ISSN 2722 2780 and Electronic ISSN 2721 8279 as its official publication identifiers.

Expansion of Focus and Scope
