Generative AI Policies
Uqubah: Journal of Islamic Law recognizes the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic research and scholarly writing. The journal permits the responsible use of AI tools while maintaining the principles of academic integrity, transparency, accountability, and ethical publishing.
Use of Generative AI by Authors
Authors may use generative AI tools to assist with limited aspects of manuscript preparation, such as improving language, grammar, readability, or formatting. However, authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and scholarly validity of their submitted work.
Authors must ensure that:
- Generative AI tools are not listed as authors or co-authors of the manuscript;
- The use of AI does not replace the authors’ intellectual contribution, critical analysis, or scholarly judgment;
- AI-generated content, ideas, data, references, or interpretations are carefully verified and appropriately acknowledged where relevant;
- AI tools are not used to fabricate data, create false references, manipulate research findings, or engage in any form of academic misconduct.
Where the use of generative AI has substantially contributed to the development of the manuscript, authors should disclose such use in the manuscript or during the submission process.
Use of Generative AI in Peer Review and Editorial Processes
Editors and reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts. They must not upload, share, or process submitted manuscripts or confidential review materials using publicly available generative AI tools or services that may compromise the confidentiality, intellectual property, or unpublished information contained in the manuscript.
Reviewers and editors remain fully responsible for their evaluations, decisions, and recommendations, regardless of whether any AI-assisted tools are used for administrative or non-confidential purposes.
Editorial Considerations
The use of generative AI does not exempt authors, reviewers, or editors from their ethical responsibilities. Uqubah: Journal of Islamic Law reserves the right to request clarification regarding the use of AI tools and to take appropriate action if AI usage results in violations of academic integrity or publication ethics.
This policy is subject to ongoing review as technologies and international standards regarding generative AI in scholarly publishing continue to develop.
