Publication Ethics
Uqubah: Journal of Islamic Law is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity in all stages of the publication process. The journal follows internationally recognized ethical principles, including the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), to ensure responsible conduct in scholarly publishing.
The journal expects all parties involved in the publication process—including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—to uphold principles of honesty, transparency, fairness, confidentiality, and accountability.
Authors’ Responsibilities
Authors submitting manuscripts to Uqubah: Journal of Islamic Law are responsible for ensuring that their work meets ethical standards of academic publishing. Authors must:
- Submit original work that has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal;
- Ensure that all sources, ideas, data, and statements from other works are properly acknowledged and cited;
- Avoid all forms of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, and other forms of academic misconduct;
- Ensure that all listed authors have made significant contributions to the research and manuscript preparation;
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may influence the research or its interpretation;
- Obtain appropriate ethical approval and informed consent where required by the nature of the research; and
- Notify the journal promptly if a significant error or inaccuracy is identified in a published article and cooperate in issuing corrections or retractions when necessary.
Editors’ Responsibilities
The editors of Uqubah: Journal of Islamic Law are responsible for ensuring a fair, transparent, and ethical editorial process. Editors must:
- Evaluate manuscripts based on their academic quality, originality, significance, and relevance to the journal’s scope, regardless of the authors’ identity, background, or institutional affiliation;
- Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and information related to the review process;
- Ensure that manuscripts are handled objectively and free from conflicts of interest;
- Select appropriate reviewers based on their expertise and suitability;
- Make publication decisions based on reviewers’ evaluations, editorial considerations, and the journal’s policies; and
- Take appropriate action when ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct arise.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
Reviewers play an essential role in maintaining the quality and integrity of published research. Reviewers must:
- Conduct reviews objectively, constructively, and within the agreed timeframe;
- Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and not disclose any information obtained during the review process;
- Evaluate manuscripts based on scholarly merit, including originality, methodology, analysis, and contribution to the field;
- Identify relevant published works that have not been properly cited by the authors;
- Avoid using information obtained through peer review for personal advantage; and
- Declare any potential conflicts of interest and decline the review assignment when necessary.
Handling of Publication Misconduct
Uqubah: Journal of Islamic Law takes allegations of publication misconduct seriously. Potential violations of publication ethics, including plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, or other unethical practices, will be investigated in accordance with applicable ethical standards and COPE guidelines.
If misconduct is confirmed, the journal may take appropriate actions, including:
- Requesting clarification or correction from the authors;
- Rejecting the submitted manuscript;
- Issuing corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions for published articles;
- Removing articles from publication records where necessary; and
- Notifying relevant institutions or authorities when appropriate.
